Principal Doug Johnson from Mountlake Terrace Elementary School “Diane Plourde, who founded and runs the Wings To Reading program, collaborates with our Title 1 reading teacher to design instruction that best fits the needs of the students to build their academic success. Through these collaborative efforts our students have all shown marked improvement in their reading. Our students really look forward to the program and have shown increased interest and confidence in their reading.” |

Learning Support Specialist, Mrs. Leann Onishi from Cedar Way Elementary School “There is a real need for collaboration when it comes to providing more book experiences for ‘struggling’ readers. These are often the students who need to practice reading more than is offered at school. Diane and her Wings to Reading staff provide a much-needed resource that shares the responsibility of supporting struggling readers. ‘It takes a village...’ and many students have benefited from this ‘village’ in which they have truly been embraced at school, at home, and in the community.” |
