“Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting and upright to praise him.” Psalm 33:1
It is hard to imagine that June is with us. Where has our first year and one month together gone? I am not sure, but it has been great so far (from my perspective). Now enter the wonderful summer months. The Psalmist asks us to “sing joyfully” before the Lord. Isn't summer a wonderful time to do that? I think so, and we want to give you some opportunities to do that.
First, we are going to have some fun with "camp" songs this summer. Do you remember those fun songs you used to sing at Christian camps and youth rallies? Do you have copies of them? If so, bring them so we can use them over the summer. We will spend a few minutes during worship learning and singing again some of those wonderful songs we used to sing around the camp fire. Bring your camp pictures (if you can find them) and we will display them for a Sunday or two.
Second, I am hoping we can have three Wednesday night fellowship times over the summer: one in June, one in July and one in August. We can meet at 5:30 p.m. have a “picnic” fellowship and then have some fun time together. The first on June 25 will be learning “how to pray in color.” It will be a time to share together and learn a new way to pray. It will be fun – I promise.
Then on July 23 I am thinking about an old fashion hymn sing, preceded by another “picnic”. Why not spend a nice summer evening in fellowship with one another and sharing the songs of faith that so often sustain us? We may even do a couple of VBS songs to get us ready for VBS the following week.|
August is not set in stone yet, well, August 27th is the date but the program is still open for suggestions. We will work on it. But again it will just be a time to gather and share. Perhaps this will be our summer “movie” night! Could set up a drive-in in the parking lot????
The Psalmist, to me, is sharing that there are many ways to praise God. Music is just one way. We should not limit our praise to just one way. Our God is a wonderful, creative and active God. Our God enjoys the praise and laughter and songs of all of us. And, isn't it more fun when it done as a group? When we gather to share the stories of our faith and when we share in the bounty God has provided for us. Come and join us for worship and then for a few Wednesday evenings. Bring a friend or many friends. Like Jell-O, there is always room for more!
